Section 1 — General Warranty Terms
1.1 Australian Consumer Law
The terms in this document describe SWD's voluntary warranty only — the additional coverage SWD provides beyond your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Your statutory rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected, limited, or replaced by anything in this document.
1.2 Definitions
- "SWD" means Specialised Wholesale Distribution ABN 35 611 990 142.
- "Voluntary warranty" means the additional warranty coverage described in this document, provided by SWD beyond the rights conferred by the Australian Consumer Law.
- "Suitably qualified installer" means a person who installs the product in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, technical specifications, and recommendations, using the correct tools and methods as specified for that installation.
- "Original purchaser" means the person or entity that purchased the product directly from SWD.
1.3 Product Misuse, Modification or Installation
This voluntary warranty does not cover defects or damage caused by any of the following:
- Modification, alteration, or repair of the product by any party not authorised by SWD.
- Abnormal use, accident, neglect, abuse, accidental or incidental damage, incorrect application, or misuse.
- Improper, incorrect, or incomplete installation, fitment, or maintenance.
- Failure to use or maintain the product in accordance with SWD's instructions, manual, technical specifications, service guidelines, or recommendations.
1.4 Order and Ownership Limitations
- Change of mind and mistaken orders are not covered under this voluntary warranty. Change of mind returns are also not accepted for special orders or custom-ordered parts.
This voluntary warranty applies to the original purchaser from SWD. If you purchased this product from a business that sourced it from SWD, that business is SWD's direct customer and your voluntary warranty claim should be directed to them in the first instance. SWD handles voluntary warranty matters with the entity it sold to directly.
This does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Your statutory rights apply regardless of where in the supply chain you purchased the product, and are not limited by anything in this voluntary warranty.
- The product had a defect which was specifically drawn to your attention before purchase, or which an examination at the point of purchase ought reasonably to have revealed.
- This voluntary warranty is not transferable. It applies to the original purchaser only.
1.5 Wear, Damage and Environmental Conditions
- Normal wear and tear is not considered a fault covered by this voluntary warranty.
- The product has been damaged by corrosion, chemicals, overloading, accidents, extreme conditions, or other external factors not attributable to a manufacturing defect.
- The issue arises from a cause independent of human control that occurred after the product left SWD's control.
1.6 Costs Not Covered
- Labour, installation, diagnostic, removal, transport, and return costs are not covered under this voluntary warranty. Any damage occurring during transit is the responsibility of the purchaser.
- You bear the cost of returning the product for assessment, including any transport costs.
1.7 Warranty Scope
- This voluntary warranty applies only to the SWD product sold and does not extend to vehicle damage or other consequential issues except to the extent required under the Australian Consumer Law.
- To the extent permitted by law, SWD's liability will not exceed the purchase price of the product. SWD will not be liable for any loss or damage which is consequential, indirect, or due to circumstances beyond SWD's reasonable control.
- This voluntary warranty applies only to products purchased within Australia.
- A repair or replacement during the warranty period will not renew or extend the original warranty period.
- To the extent permitted by law, SWD excludes all representations, warranties, or terms (whether express or implied) other than those expressly set out in this document.
1.8 Customer Obligations
You must use and maintain the product in accordance with all manufacturer instructions, technical specifications, service guidelines, and any other information supplied by SWD. If you believe a product has a defect, you must not attempt to repair it yourself. Contact SWD promptly so that any necessary assessment or repair can be carried out. Attempting self-repair may result in damage not covered by this voluntary warranty. You are also responsible for selecting the correct product for your application, including any environmental factors relevant to that application.
1.9 Claim Process and Remedies
- All warranty claims will be assessed by SWD.
- To lodge a warranty claim, contact SWD directly using the contact details at the end of this document. You must provide proof of purchase, a written description of the defect, and any photographic or video evidence requested by SWD.
- SWD may decline to accept any warranty claim that is not made in accordance with these warranty terms, or where the issue falls outside the scope of this voluntary warranty.
- Where SWD requests inspection, the product must be returned to an SWD warehouse. Photographic or video evidence may be accepted in lieu of return at SWD's discretion. Return costs are the customer's responsibility for voluntary warranty claims. If no defect is found, reasonable inspection costs may be charged.
- Where SWD requires further information during the assessment of a claim, the customer must respond to all requests within 14 days. Failure to respond within this period may result in the claim being closed.
- By submitting a warranty claim, you acknowledge and agree that SWD may share information relating to you and the product with relevant parties for the purpose of assessing and fulfilling the claim.
- SWD will respond to claims within a reasonable time.
- Where a product was sold as part of a kit or system, the complete product must be returned for warranty assessment. Consumable fitting components (gaskets, clamps, hardware) are not required to be returned. A claim cannot be made for a full kit based on the failure of one component without all kit components being returned.
- You must contact SWD immediately at the point of issue, before removing the product from the vehicle or undertaking any repair. Where SWD requires you to liaise with a manufacturer or supplier in accordance with their separate warranty terms, SWD will coordinate this with you.
- If a voluntary warranty claim is accepted, SWD will, at its option, repair the product, replace the product (or a component), or provide a refund up to the value of the originally purchased part.
1.10 Variation and Governing Law
- Only SWD may vary the terms of this voluntary warranty. No representative, reseller, or installer has authority to vary these terms.
- This voluntary warranty is governed by the laws of Queensland. Any disputes arising in connection with this warranty are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.
Section 2 — Emissions Products
2.1 DPF Warranty
All SWD Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are covered by a 1-year limited warranty.
Before making any DPF warranty claim, you must complete and return the DPF Warranty Claim Form. This form records installation and engine condition data relevant to assessing voluntary warranty claims. The form must be returned to SWD within 14 days of delivery (email accepted). Failure to return the form within this period will result in the voluntary warranty claim being declined. The form is available from SWD on request.
A warranty claim may be rejected for the following reasons:
- DPFs are only covered for structural failure. Structural failure refers to physical breakdown of the internal monolith, such as melting, deformation, or fracturing of the core material, resulting from a manufacturing or material defect. A DPF returned due to blockage caused by engine fault, contamination, driving cycle, or maintenance issues will not be considered a voluntary warranty claim.
- Breakup of the monolith caused by excessive vibrations or accidents will not be considered a warranty claim.
- Use of oil not conforming to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
- Use of biodiesel in the vehicle.
- Obstruction of the monolith caused by the use of exhaust paste.
- Obstruction of the monolith caused by oil or antifreeze entering the exhaust system.
- Failure to immediately follow the manufacturer's instructions when the DPF warning light illuminates.
- For vehicles using an additive to assist in the regeneration process, this additive was not used.
- All engine faults that caused the original DPF to fail were not rectified before fitting the replacement.
- The ECU was not reset at the time of replacing the DPF.
- Gaskets and mountings were not replaced at the time of fitting the new DPF.
2.2 Catalytic Converter Warranty
SWD catalytic converters (exclusions apply) are covered by a 1-year limited warranty. Upon purchase, you must complete and return the Redback Enviro Warranty Certificate. This certificate records installation and engine condition data relevant to assessing voluntary warranty claims. The certificate must be returned to SWD within 14 days of delivery (email accepted). Failure to return the certificate within this period will result in the voluntary warranty claim being declined. The certificate is available from SWD on request.
Note: Certain catalytic converter part numbers are excluded from standard warranty terms due to known application-specific limitations. The C1275 is one such product and carries a 3-month warranty only.
Submitting a claim:
Catalytic converter warranty claims must be submitted using our warranty form: swd.com.au/pages/submit-catalytic-converter-warranty-claim
A warranty claim may be rejected for the following reasons:
- Catalytic converters are only covered for structural failure. Structural failure refers to physical breakdown of the internal substrate, such as melting, deformation, or fracturing of the core material, resulting from a manufacturing or material defect. A catalytic converter returned due to blockage or meltdown caused by engine fault will not be considered a warranty claim.
- Breakup of the substrate caused by excessive vibrations or accidents will not be considered a warranty claim.
- Use of oil not conforming to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
- Obstruction of the substrate caused by the use of exhaust paste.
- Obstruction of the substrate caused by oil or antifreeze entering the exhaust system.
- All engine faults that caused the original catalytic converter to fail were not rectified before fitting the replacement.
- Failure caused by exhaust leaks resulting from incorrect or insufficient bolt torque, inadequate sealing, or installer error. Ensuring a leak-free installation is the installer's responsibility.
- Gaskets and mountings were not replaced at the time of fitting the catalytic converter.
- The incorrect catalytic converter was fitted according to the Euro rating of the vehicle and engine capacity.
- The catalytic converter was modified in any way.
Section 3 — Universal Muffler Products
Universal muffler products carry a 2-year warranty from the date of purchase. The following conditions apply when assessing warranty eligibility.
3.1 Welding to the Barrel
- Do not weld support mounts directly to the muffler barrel. Doing so will fall outside the scope of the voluntary warranty where the failure is caused by this conduct.
- Instead, use a barrel ring with support brackets.
3.2 Weld Slag and Heat Damage
- When welding in or around a Stainless Steel Cannon, Universal Muffler, or Tip, ensure weld spatter or slag does not contact the product, as it may cause surface rust, pitting, or cosmetic damage.
- Always use anti-spatter spray or protective shields to prevent damage.
- Excessive heat input during installation can compromise internal packing materials or weld seams, and will fall outside the scope of the voluntary warranty where the failure is caused by this conduct.
3.3 Noise and Emission Levels
- When fitting any performance product, the installer is responsible for ensuring the vehicle complies with all applicable Australian state or territory noise and emissions regulations.
- SWD accepts no responsibility for fines, defects, or compliance issues arising from improper fitment or use outside legal limits.
3.4 General Fitment Responsibility
- All installation must be carried out by a suitably qualified installer using the correct tools and methods. Improper fitment, where it causes or contributes to the failure, will fall outside the scope of the voluntary warranty.
- Modification or use outside the manufacturer's guidelines will fall outside the scope of the voluntary warranty where the failure is caused by this conduct.
- Failure of fasteners, mounts, or hangers after installation, and any consequential damage to the vehicle (including but not limited to bumper, undertray, or trim damage from heat or contact), is the installer's responsibility and falls outside the scope of this voluntary warranty.
3.5 Vehicle Condition and Operation
Warranty does not cover damage caused by the vehicle itself, including:
- Backfiring or detonation.
- Incorrect tuning, ECU modifications, or fuel mixtures, including "crackle and pop" tunes, anti-lag systems, or any tune that deliberately produces exhaust backfire or unburnt fuel ignition.
- Excessive heat, unburnt fuel, or contamination entering the exhaust.
- Engine or drivetrain faults putting abnormal stress on exhaust components.
- Use on extreme high-powered vehicles that produce exhaust output beyond what a standard muffler can reasonably handle.
This voluntary warranty covers the SWD product only and does not extend to unrelated vehicle parts or components.
Section 4 — Redback Headers, Performance and Standard Replacement
Redback headers and aluminised or mild steel exhausts carry an automatic 2-year warranty from the date of purchase.
This warranty applies to:
- Structural damage or failure of steel components, including mufflers, pipes, and welds, where the fault is due to a manufacturing or material defect.
- Products that are installed by a suitably qualified installer using the correct tools and methods, and used under normal driving conditions.
These products are designed to fit and operate with vehicles in their factory configuration. Significant vehicle modifications, such as forced induction upgrades or engine performance tuning beyond the vehicle manufacturer's specifications, may fall outside the scope of this voluntary warranty where those modifications cause or contribute to the failure. Normal bolt-on accessories and fitments within manufacturer specifications do not affect coverage.
In addition to the general exclusions set out in Section 1, this voluntary warranty does not cover:
- Damage caused by incorrect tuning, ECU modifications, or fuel mixtures, including "crackle and pop" tunes, anti-lag systems, or any tune that deliberately produces exhaust backfire or unburnt fuel ignition.
- Damage caused by backfiring, detonation, excessive heat, unburnt fuel, or contamination entering the exhaust.
- Engine or drivetrain faults putting abnormal stress on exhaust components.
- Failure of fasteners, mounts, or hangers after installation, and any consequential damage to the vehicle (including but not limited to bumper, undertray, or trim damage from heat or contact), which is the installer's responsibility.
This voluntary warranty covers the SWD product only and does not extend to unrelated vehicle parts or components.
For failures that do not amount to a major failure under the Australian Consumer Law, SWD is entitled to remedy the failure within a reasonable time. This may include repair of the product, replacement of the product or a component, or a refund, as appropriate in the circumstances.
Section 5 — Redback Extreme Duty Exhausts
Each Redback 4x4 Extreme Duty Exhaust product carries a 5-year warranty. An extended 10-year warranty is available by registering your purchase within 6 months of the purchase date.
Purchases made directly through the Redback Exhaust website are automatically registered and do not require separate registration to qualify for the extended warranty.
For all other purchases, including those made through a reseller or distributor, registration is required within 6 months of purchase at redbackexhausts.com.au/pages/warranty. Purchases not registered within this period are not eligible for the extended warranty and default to the standard 5-year coverage.
This warranty applies to:
- Structural defects or failures of exhaust components, including mufflers, pipes, and welds, resulting from manufacturing or material faults.
A repair or replacement during the warranty period will not renew or extend the original warranty period.
